2007 "Dreamt Worlds, Lived Worlds, Worlds"- Casal Balaguer

I have visited the studio, in a remote street of the old quarter of Palma, of the artist Rox and I have been able to follow the process through which she creates her paintings, how the images are formed on her canvases. Rox builds her works with the matter out of which dreams are made, human matter, after all. She says that her paintings are shaped like an engagement diary, where the fevers and fears of life appear. A matter constructed from desire, betrayal, pain, freedom, love and failure. A black line drives the rhythm, but we might have got lost in a labyrinth. Rox explores unknown techniques of expression and experiments with textures. It is surprising and admirable to observe how she harmonizes the colours: the blues, the whites, the reds. She gets carried away with the game of forms and plays with the sand, by the island’s sea. Rox knows that waves wash away these signs. In the meantime, she paints the memory of the signs: the reminder of sadness. (Gabriel Janer Manila)
